Professional Standards

The primary responsibility of the Professional Standards Unit is to respond to allegations of misconduct against the Dartmouth Police Department and its members. The Professional Standards Unit will be responsible for recording, and investigating criminal and non-criminal complaints, against members. The Professional Standards Unit is also responsible for reviewing the departmental reports filed by shift supervisors regarding the handling of informal complaints.

The Deputy Chief assigned to that shall have the authority to report directly to the Chief. This component will ensure that the integrity of the department is maintained through an internal system where objectivity, fairness, and justice are assured by intensive, impartial investigation and review.
